  1. Have you ever danced out at Heartbreakers near Galveston?

    • Nope, but I did dance at Rick’s South down there. Not a bad club, from what I remember. That was about four years ago.

  2. Hmm…
My best friend is always toting her days as a stripper…
    However brief.

I’ve always kinda wondered what the big deal was…

I’m curious about learning a possibility as to why she loved it so much.

Thanks for the insights you’ve posted so far.

It doesn’t appear as bad as I was raised to believe.
    Fun rather.

  3. Found your blog today and lovin’ it so far. Going to link it to my blogroll, okay?

Let me know if you’re ever in Austin (I work mostly at P10 but bounce around the westside clubs somewhat).
    Casey

  4. Good blog! I hope you keep it up–a lot of the stripper blogs have fallen by the wayside.

  5. Hi Sarah -
Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your blog. I too used to blog as an “angry” stripper (thestripperhatesyou.blogspot.com). I also went to J-school!
    Best,
    Josephine

  6. Hi!
I came across your blog while googling earning potential for dancers in Houston. My friend and I are planning to drive down to Houston sometime in March and dance for a week. We have never danced before, but have been working at a strip club (6 mos. for me; I waitress, and around 3 mos. for her; she’s a doorgirl/cashier). There are a lot of reasons why we don’t want to dance at the club we work at right now , or anywhere close to it, mainly because we like our jobs and we would like to keep them (there’s a strict “no fllipping back” rule), and we don’t want anyone that we work with to find out.
Anyways, I was wondering if you could give us some pointers as to the clubs in Houston, how much we can expect to make, is Houston friendly to new girls with no experience or will we get chewed up, etc. etc. The main reason I am going is to pay off at least some of my 14,000 in student loans; I think she is going just to make some extra money. I realize we are both new to this and anything you could offer in the way of advice would be great!
    Thank you,
    Christine
PS if you could email me back instead of posting it here I would really appreciate it.

    • Christine, I was reading this blog and would love to hear about how your experience went and whether you ended up paying off your loans! I’m starting a site that it sounds like you’d totally relate to.

  7. i really like your blog it is very informative. i want to become a striper i the near future because of financial difficulites but i have always wonder where do u keep your money during the night? on your bra?

    • Haha … no, you shouldn’t keep it in your bra, since if you’re doing business as you should be, you’ll be removing your top often. You can keep your dough in a small handbag, like a clutch, which is what I usually do, or you can run it back to your locker, which takes too much time, or you can strap it to your leg or ankle with the stripper strings girls use to tie their shoes on (a la ballerina style) — or a new option is to buy the hollow shoes that have a little slot in the side, where you can deposit your money like a little lucite bank.

      Hope that helps :)

      • Yeah, those are called Pleaser Tip Jars and they come in a variety of styles. My favorite is the pair with the glow in the dark “Tip$” design on them. Either you or your customers fold the money and slip it through the slot and when ever your ready to retrieve the cash theres a hidden trap door in the sole.

  8. Hi Sarah,

Excellent blog. Thank you. I’m going to link.

    Peace,
    A

  9. getting ready, finally, for sleep 5am. friday morning (3/26)- took off my shirt, discovered you were still in it. lovely. good flight?

    • oops. that was 5a saturday… no matter, same sentiment.

  10. Hi Sarah, I love the blog. It’s really interesting to hear a true account of the life of a dancer. I am a frequent visitor to strip clubs here in vegas and I was wondering if you have ever danced here and your opinion of the clubs here vs houston or other places you’ve been. I’ve noticed that a lot of girls come to vegas from all over the country and I wonder if it’s based on earning potential or just a curiosity to see what vegas dancing is like.

  11. First time visiting today. Very nice blog and I love your intelligence and wit. I’ll definitely be back.

  12. I love your blog. Absolutely love it. I hope it’s alright with you that I linked it on mine.

I just started both blogging and stripping. Like you, I’m a journalism major but had to stop half way through this semester to earn up some dough. In the mean time I’m chronicling it in order to keep my writing sharp, and also because there is just so much priceless material. Check out my journal if you have time, http://glassslipperblog.blogspot.com/. And keep up the awesome postings.

  13. Hi Sarah. In Texas for the weekend? Your fans await you!

  14. Well of course you have fans! It’s the wit I find attractive. That and you sound as if you really enjoy what you do and that’s always attractive. Now if I knew your schedule I could check out the bod when you’re in Houston! Then I might forget all about the wit!

  15. Dea Sarah,
Please, could you write a post about Russian strippers – just wondering about your honest impression as an American strippers about them.
    I’ll be really apressiate

    • Please… :)

      • Haha … I mostly work with Russian girls in New York City. Next time I’m up there (hopefully soon!), I’ll be sure to do a post about the lovelies from the world’s largest country. :)

      • Dear Sarah,
I would really appreciate it. I’m writing a book and this information will help me a lot.
        Thanks again,
        V/R

  16. Still wandering aimlessly… Just wanted to say hi… Back in 2 weeks

  17. Just to throw this out there for people reading “about Sarah”, she is easily as hot or hotter than her picture implies. Maybe that will help you guys enjoy her writing even more! :)

    • Did you give her your wallet? :)

    • At which club do you see her?

      • Guess? :p

      • OW!!!!

  18. Went to St James Saturday afternoon. No Sarah. When do you start your shift?

    • At least your wallet still with you :) ))) LOL :) ))

  19. Nobody works on Saturday afternoon!

  20. I love your blog! I really wish you would have encountered me last week at Rick’s NYC since it was my first time in a strip club (even though I’m 42), was nervous as hell, had only $100 to spend (after door and 2 drink minimum) and had a married Asian friend with me who wouldn’t let any of the girls touch him! I would have loved to read your reaction to us! Although, from looking at your pic, I’m sure you would have been the one to get the majority of my money that evening (most of it went to a small Japanese girl and perfect Russian girl)!

  21. Sarah, I’m very impressed! I dropped by to read my blog! Your beauty is evident to the eye, and now I see. Maverick, Mike, or whatever enjoyed the night out. May our path’s cross again whenever they’re supposed to! Be well.

  22. Hi- I think your blog is hilarious :) That being said, what is your opinion on entering the stripper game too late? You mentioned somewhere else that 30 is old by stripper standards, which is understandable, but what age would you say is too late to start? Thanks in advance :)

    • Oh, gosh … that really depends on what you’ve been doing up to the point where you want to start. If you’ve been a yoga instructor with a day job in sales or something, I imagine you might do well. If you’re an Evangelical mother of three, you may be in for a shock.

In any case, it all kind of boils down to your looks, your body, and your ability to chat up strangers. If you’re serious about getting into it (and I assume we’re talking about you, here), then I would do some basic stuff to prep, like dancing naked in front of a mirror and getting a tan. The muscles used to dance at a strip club are slightly different than the ones used to say, take a spin class, and you want to strengthen those muscles so you look like you know what you’re doing when you’re auditioning.

The club will make the final call on whether you’re in or out, of course. Crappier clubs and really, really big clubs tend to be more accepting. The club I usually work at in Houston is a little strict: applicants have to bring in a Texas ID, proof of residency, and their Social Security card. There’s a smaller strip club up the road, and one of the managers mentioned that the girls who come over from that club to try to get hired are “old.” But he means like in their 40s.

If you’re a knockout with a banging body and a good personality, I can’t imagine that you won’t find a club that’ll hire you. And since this is a supposed to a temporary job — not a life-long career — I wouldn’t worry too much about how late you’re getting started.

    • Hi there – I know its almost two years after this posting, but I worked as a dancer from age 34 to 42 while I went through graduate school and internships. I sometimes still visit on wet tshirt night just to keep the nostalgia going, as well as dance naked at home. It is such a great workout. Im almost 46 now. Dancing kept my body young at an age where a lot of women give up, and I was still dancing when I became a grandmother. Now I am a lifetime fitness girl and never intend to give up my sexiness.

  23. Hi! I love your blog and read it frequently. I messaged you a while back about tips on dancing in Texas. Well, I never ended up going, but I’m in NY now for school and have recently started dancing. I wanted to ask your advice again, if you don’t mind.
It’s only my third night dancing here (I danced for about a week at my club in New Orleans I used to waitress at; that’s the only experience I’ve had before coming to NYC), and I can’t seem to get any rooms. I do well on lap dances, but about half of that ends up going to base rent and tip-out, so really I’m not making much more than my old waitressing job. I know I need to sell rooms to start making real money, but I can’t figure out how. For example, when a customer asks me what goes on in the rooms, I never know what to say (am I supposed to be cheesy and say “Whatever you want baby”). And how do I even work the topic of rooms into the convo? Any tips would be appreciated; thanks very much!

    • Hi Christine, Good to hear from you again.
I went to NYU, but I didn’t really dance in NYC until I moved out of it. Now I occasionally work at New York Dolls, and I worked at Rick’s at Herald Sq. a couple of times.

New York City tip-outs are outrageously expensive, especially compared to what I’m used to paying in Houston. When it comes to NYC dancing, I consider it continuing education/training for my Houston club. When I get back from NYC, I can work my club in Houston a little faster, and I’m usually more focused and in better shape.

With regard to selling rooms, I don’t think I can be of much help. Since I’ve started dancing, I haven’t been able to make much headway in this area. I still make the majority of my money doing straight dances, song for song, $20 a pop. It means I’ve got my lap dance routine down PAT, but the managers who want to sell bottles or rooms aren’t that impressed with me.

I don’t know what to tell you; I would say just tell them the truth about what goes on in there, but I don’t know if that’s the right answer. Some girls are constantly selling bottles/VIP access; I don’t know what they do or how they do it.

It usually doesn’t hurt to mention the champagne room or VIP; sometimes it’ll pique the customer’s interest enough for him to spring for it. Sometimes it’s a turn-off though, so proceed with caution.

I guess one of the main selling points is that there is more privacy in VIP. Some guys don’t want a bunch of people watching him get lap dances.

That’s about all I can offer you. If you figure out a better way, I’d appreciate your insights :)

      aS

      • Hey thanks for answering! Anyways, I also messaged a dancer I used to work with on Bourbon asking her what to do about rooms. Her name’s Fiona, and as one of the bartenders put it, “she’s the chunkiest motherfucker in here.” Basically, Fiona’s not what you would call classically hot, but she is ALWAYS in a room.
What Fiona said to do was start with a dance. When the dance is almost over, ask the guy, “So you wanna keep going or do you wanna go upstairs and play? It’s more intimiate, more private, and we can do more.” And if he asks what goes in the rooms, say “I can do whatever I want to you.” or “I’d love to tell you, but showing you is better.” And she said to pay attention to how you speak and put special emphasis on certain words, such as “intimate” or “play
The problem is that I feel stupid saying that to someone, you know? But it obviously must work. Also, what I’ve noticed her do when I’ve waited on tables she was at, was that she would stare into the guy’s eyes, brush back his hair, and make sure he ordered another drink to get him good and liquored up. And Fiona is VERY good at touching guys, like lightly running her fingers down their arms and scratching the middle of their backs (my manager in NOLA told me guys will do anything for you if you scratch their backs lol).
Well, just thought I’d share that bit of stripper wisdom with you, I don’t know if that was helpful at all, but I am defintely going to have to try it if it I don’t want to be living on the streets because I can’t pay my rent!

  24. Sarah, remember you telling me about this blog a couple of weeks ago at the club. Wasn’t sure of the name (cultural I just don’t know how sympathetic people are of angry strippers), but it’s entertaining. Good Luck!

  25. Did you ever run into a stripper named Eve back in the day? She was 6-6’3, pacific islander, simply perfect.

  26. I have a little too much time on my hands today as it is really bothering me what the “<3 :: aS" stands for. I guess since no one else has asked, it must something very obvious or the rest of you are more scared than of making a fool of themselves than I am. Which in retrospect could help explain why I end up in certain situations.

In any case, will you indulge us?

  27. Just out of curiosity. Did you know you blog was published in the October 2010 Maxim? Page 22, under the awesome title of “e-string divas.” Your blog is very interesting and funny. Thanks for the insight.

    • Wow, no, but thanks for passing on the info …
      :)

  28. I miss your posts! Please write some more!!

  29. hey- i have a stripping-related question and don’t know who to ask. i read your blog so i figured….i’d ask you! i have a friend who confessed to me she used to strip but seemed kinda reluctant to tell me (but was drinking heavily and hating on girls dancing on the bar. i asked why she thought she could do better. she claimed her previous occupation gave her the right to make fun of them). she told me she would never hook up with customers n such because she was morally opposed and was in a relationship.

fast-forward a few months when we were comparing notes about UTIs, yeast infections etc. She then asked me if I wanted a couple bottles of cranberry pills because she has a lot “left over”. I declined, but asked why she had so many stockpiled. she claimed that her stripclub manager required her to take DAILY cranberry pills and acidophilus supplements to prevent UTIs and YIs.

Now, I claim total ignorance when it comes to sex work, stripping, etc but….wouldn’t cranberry n acidophilus pills only be necessary if there was a lot of sexual penetration and related behavior? are UTIs and yeast a common problem when it comes to stripping? would this be something required of working strippers? i’m just very confused and i personally believe that this proves that she was doing more than stripping…but would love to hear your two cents! i can’t ask her because…we’re friends. i’d just like to know how much of her secret i’m now carrying around. THANKS!!

    • Umm, about the stockpiling of acidophilus and cranberry pills … that sounds odd to me. If your straight stripping without anything else, I don’t think these things are ever necessary.

BUT … if your girl was a butt-naked dancer, that might be different. I work in topless clubs, so my axe wound is always covered up, if you know what I mean. I don’t know what working in a butt-naked club is like, but I would imagine that there’s more fluids and microorganisms involved, even if you don’t play.

All of this notwithstanding, I have no idea what the chemistry of your lady friend’s pussy is like … and that could make all the difference.

Good luck, and keep that pH healthy …
      <3 :: aS

      • LOVE your blog. My fantasy football team name is now “AXE WOUND.” pH healthy….awesome.

PS – post a pic of “high-five guy” and I’ll punch him in the nuts if I see him.

    • UTIs are caused by e.coli bacteria from your butt getting into your urethra. Minor infections stay there and get flushed out, bad ones get up to your bladder and require antibiotics, and serious ones can get all the way to your kidneys.

They suck and can put you out of commission for a few days (manager’s perspective: bad for business), and are really easy to get if you’ve got a string rubbing around in your buttcrack and crotch for hours, especially if you’re sweaty, especially if you’re shaved/waxed, and especially if said panty is a synthetic (nylon, lycra, spandex, etc) material. I’m guessing you’re one of those lucky women with better chemistry than me so UTIs seem alien to you, but for some women they are very very common. It absolutely does not mean there is penetration.

I know this post is really old but I feel the need to set the record straight about UTIs and what they “mean”. Hopefully Katie has email notifications enabled.

  30. ok I am going to reveal my complete uncoolness but…..can you reply to tweets?

    • Yes, but I don’t know how I can see them. You reply on your own Twitter account.

  31. THANK YOU MAXIM, for bringing me this wonderful gem of a blog. Sarah, you bring an enlightening insight into a wonderful business. I wish I lived in Houston, I would gladly be an easy mark for you. Keep up the great work.

  32. Was trying to find a better way to message you but it looks like this is it! Traveling to NY for 4-5 days and going to attempt the traveling stripper thing for the first time. I currently dance in Boston. My girl who goes back and forth between the 2 cities recommended sapphire and penthouse…have you checked out either of them? Also, do you usually stay at hotels while you’re there? Seems like it could get pretty pricey, but if it’s worth it…

    • I haven’t danced at Sapphire, nor have I been inside. Penthouse was dead when I went in to audition — like, a table of strippers sitting alone in a big club — so I didn’t stay. Plus, I hate when management makes me wait longer than 20 minutes to audition.

When I dance in New York City, it’s usually at New York Dolls. I’ve also danced at Rick’s in Herald Square, but I prefer New York Dolls. You can read my reviews for both of them here and here.

Please note that New York isn’t a cash cow for me; I make more money in Houston almost every single time. I use New York City as a kind of continuing education and physical training. The hustle there is harder and faster, and I have to go onstage a WHOLE lot more. When I get back to Houston, making money is like taking candy from a baby. Sometimes it’s good to keep things in perspective, and New York is a reality check.

Hotel-wise, you will be paying a lot, I think. I usually stay at the Chelsea Savoy at 23rd and Seventh Ave. Find a clean budget hotel near the club of your choice. Cabs are a must when you get off at 4 a.m., so proximity is always an issue, since you don’t want to pay for a $20 cab ride on top of New York tip outs, which are exorbitant by Texas standards.

If you want to make easy money, you can always come to Houston.

      Good luck …

      <3 :: aS

      • Thanks for all the advice!

My experiment with NY was a mixed bag. I got there late and auditioned at Penthouse at 11. They hired me and let me stay, and I ended up making $1500 from 11-4. And it was easy – practically all just handed to you. I’m not sure what Houston is like, but compared to what I make outside of Boston I was pumped. I didn’t have to pay the house fee because it was my first night.

The second night sucked. Granted it was a Saturday, which I guess are notoriously awful there, and it was also fight night which brought a lot of people to bars and other places it was broadcast. Sunday they were closed but they give girls the option to go to their sister club, Scores, and pay no house fee. I was way too exhausted. 4am twice in a row is not something I’m accustomed to.

All and all a good experience though. Found a reasonable hotel by Times Square, and was able to pay for the whole trip and then some. I think I’m definitely going to go back every now and then, especially now that one of my friends is moving there – and Penthouse seems to be ok with transient strippers.

How does Houston feel about girls that kind of pop in and out? Now that I’ve discovered the joys of a Stripcation I want to explore more!

    • Hey Linds! I know you wrote this comment a long time ago but if you are still around I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind dropping me an email…Boston is my hometown and I am currently looking for a place to work in NYC and had a few questions!

      Let me know, thanks! nicholekatsikas@gmail.com

  33. Admittetly, I dropped my Arabian class after just one truly horrible semester, but I think the search tag of the day translates as “sports wear” or just possibly “underwear”.

    • Thanks, Rp. I guess that kind of makes sense …

      <3 :: aS

  34. I have been serving at a topless bar for a few weeks now. I think I am going to start dancing soon, probably at another nearby club that does not need dance cards.

So, what was some advice you wished someone would have given to you when you were about to start? The dancers at my work have been really nice, but I know that I’d be considered competition so they may not want to help me too much. I’m in the Detroit Metro area so I don’t think we’d run into each other too much ;) Thanks Sarah!

    <3 Scout

  35. Can’t believe more magazines like Playboy and Penthouse haven’t picked up on this blog yet. I am sure there are a million followers! I guess they think you are too angry!

  36. so, how is it over in houston, money-wise? i don’t want exact figures or anything, but i am looking to drive over there from new orleans and i want to know if it’s worth my time/gas money…
    thanks!

  37. Love your blog! Check out mine if you want http://www.wallstreetstripper.com :)

    • Will do; gracias, little lady :)

      <3 :: aS

  38. You know, the idea that the stripper hates me actually makes me a bit fuzzy inside.
You know what bugs me? The wasted conversation starters. Why do strippers always ask me, “so, do you like music?” Who the fuck doesn’t? Why get to know me? Be more incisive, or shut the hell up.

    • Wait, so you DO like music?

Everyone, say hello to Brad. I went to high school with him.

      <3 :: aS

  39. I dunno, I usually find that I have a much better time if I relate to the strippers as, you know, human beings. Unlike everything else at the strip club, kindness is free. It’s not all altruistic either, lapdancing is a pretty sexual activity and if she decides likes you and gets turned on a bit….well let’s say that anything could happen :)

  40. Great blog, Sarah. I was actually searching for something on stripper shoes when I came across it an hour ago…I think it’s great that you share so much with your readers and respond to their questions so honestly. Also, it is interesting to get such insights into your line of business, as it is usually so “taboo”. :-)

  41. where do you currently work in houston?

  42. I found your blog when I tried looking for reviews of the wings at Hooters, but I never got the wings because I spent the rest of the day reading your blog from front to back. I hope you start making money off of this thing. It’s excellent!

    • Probably my favorite comment ever. I saved you from Hooters.

      <3 :: aS

  43. Everyone at scrueyou.com Follows your Blog!

    • I like the sound of that.

      <3 :: aS

  44. I love your blog. I’m a new dancer in houston & your reviews have been really helpful! I really wanna work at St. James but when I went to apply a few weeks ago the GM said they were full & I should try back later :( He didn’t say it in a “you’re ugly & I’m just saying this so you will go away” kind of way he seemed really genuine about it. plus he told me I would be a good fit for the club if they weren’t so full. Is it typical for St. James to have “too many” dancers?

  45. Hi Sarah, love the blog! I’m a former dancer turned strip club manager and I’m a lesbian! LOL, anyway…can so relate to where you’re coming from and keep up the great writing. I’m going to link to you from my own blog…www.thesouthernstrip.com…thanks again for sharing!

  46. Is there a way for us to RSS you for our sites?

    http://www.exoticdancer.com
    http://www.edpublicaitons.com

  47. you’re super cute!!

  48. Hi Sarah,
Havent been to your site in a while. I hope your hand is healing and I hope that you rested it and allowed it to heal properly. A bone that does not heal properly can by a major long term problem.

I am heading to San Antiono on business and though I have not been in a strip club in quite a while (getting old I guess). I was (past tense) hoping that you might be dancing in that town the weekend I will be there. But with a healing fracture now I no longer have that particular hope, and prefer that you make sure you get back to 100%.

I have found my trips to your blog to be fun and informative and in addition to enjoying the pleasure of seeing you dance I was planning on sending a few dollars your way. I guess that will have to wait.. Do you keep a calendar of where and when you will be dancing for future reference?

    Thanks for your reply

  49. Hi, I just found your blog. Love it!!

    http://www.theclientslist.com

  50. Hi Sarah,
I just want to say that I’ve been following all the news lately. I think you’re awesome and I wish you the best of luck on your next steps!!!

  51. Heh… I bet you’re a real khunt and hate both men and sex, as most strippers do. You seem like I real beeatch from what I’ve seen on T.V.

So in honor of all the men you hate, please get an incurable excruciatingly painful cancer and die a miserable death. You’ve earned it.

    Thanks a lot.
    Men.

    • It sounds like you’re the one with issues. And one of them is your spelling, which tells me that you lack the intelligence to truly grasp the concepts contained in this blog, or any others for that matter. You’re a poor excuse for a man and you give others a bad name…

      • Well said girl

      • Ha ha ha ha… I can spell just fine dumbfuck, and i’m far more educated than you’ll ever be. My spelling creativity is to avoid having my post filtered out or removed for language issues you fucking moron. Strippers are human garbage, and considering your name on your comment is Stripper X, I guess that qualifies you as human garbage as well, with the exact same issues I pointed out to the cunt in the first post I left.

        Ha ha ha ha.

      • Aww, did some stripper clean you out of one of your measly paychecks a long time ago and now you’re harboring a bitterness that can only be satiated through mindless and unoriginal banter? I have two Bachelor degrees – one from a highly regarded Florida institution – I danced by choice. And the meager extent of your education is made even more obvious by your use, or lack thereof, of the human language. I can make my points to you without resorting to name-calling and cursing. I’m not garbage, never have I ever been. I don’t lack self-esteem and your comments have begun to amuse me. So why don’t you pull your hand out of your pants, get your overweight rear end off of the couch, stop guzzling beer, smacking your fat wife around and get an actual life. You’re the “fucking moron” here, not me or Sarah.

      • Well said, indeed.

      • You write well – I must say I’m quite impressed. Why is this man so angry ? Are you exploiting dumb men who choose to blow their measly pachecks (that was a zinger – nice job) instead of paying the electric bill ? Well – yes. However pond scum like this have only themselves to blame.

        Best,

        men – huh – speak 4 yourself

      • Thanks :-) for the compliment and the support…

      • Exactly…thanks for the kudos!

      • I wouldn’t want AM and his bad energy anywhere near my club. BTW, I danced through college and have two master’s degrees. I met some of the most fun and loving people where I worked, most who are still my friends today. Of course, in any group there are low life people, but anyone who calls anyone else human garbage is that himself.

      • I couldn’t agree more, Michelle!

      • Yes, Michelle, he definitely sounds angry and bitter. You’re absolutely right…I have great friends now whom I use to dance with, as well as others I’d rather not have known at all, lol. That definitely could be said about any industry!

    • Most people who object to stripping simply avoid going to strip clubs, they don’t troll around the internet spewing rage on stripper blogs. If you don’t like it, why bother devoting time and energy to disliking it?
You need to find a constructive hobby. Maybe adopt a dog and go play frisbee in the park or something. You’ve got some serious issues, and yeah, don’t act like you represent men, all the ones I know would definitely not like to be associated with you.

      • I don’t object to stripping, actually it’s pretty erotic. The only thing is, I don’t want to be teased and get all hot and bothered for nothing. That’s why I avoid strip clubs. You’re paying for a fantasy that usually won’t result in a “happy ending.” Unless of course, you offer enough money to get that, I believe most strippers have a price for that. It’s interesting how young women are when they first realize they have a commodity that men will pay for, and how many are willing to do it, despite cultural restraints and taboos. Thank goodness for women willing to sell their sexuality.

      • Tom H…sure, there are girls willing to do more for more money. However, there are plenty of us who didn’t have to go that route. And you’re right, young girls who don’t know how to harness their sexuality and that type of ‘power’ of manipulation, make stupid mistakes and go too far. That’s what makes it harder on all dancers across the board. I don’t knock prostitution – it’s just that it needs to be separated from exotic dancing. They’re not one in the same. The tease is where the power lies – you’re never supposed to give it up. And in reference to your final comment: ‘Thank goodness for women willing to sell their sexuality’ – I say, thank goodness for men willing to pay for it. Just another example of good old-fashioned supply and demand.

    • To American Men: If you feel that much anger at people, then something must have happened to you that makes you that way. This anger does not happen in a vacuum. I don’t know where you’re from, but most men worth their salt don’t hate these beautiful girls for doing something which might give them a bit of an opportunity and also an experience which might diversify their perspectives. Any old thief knows that it’s all part of the deal. My perspective is to GO to the club and share the fun. That costs money. I’ve found that the girls/ ladies/ women there are very nice and I would never hate them for playing the game. Get some perspective on women dude. Don’t go through your life as a hater. A lot of problems will be solved if you find a friend, and be one. Get counseling too.

      Chris

  52. Keep doing what you’re doing. You’re working to make a living and you’re providing ENTERTAINMENT for the people who go to watch you WORK, Too many guys forget that you’re doing a job for their enjoyment and that you’re not their g/f, shrink, friend etc. You’re doing a job that you want to get paid for…..most guys would do they same thing if they could!

  53. how can i see the real blog?

  54. What I can’t seem to understand is that why can’t a person utilize his or her natural attributes to succeedd in this upside down world that we live in. The critics of Sara are either non- successful, envious leading to jealousy. She is highly educated and uses hereducation affirmatively as a reporter, writer and professor. She was also blessed with an attractive IN SHAPE body. Perhaps those that are so jealous of her will now be motivated to lose all that extra weight and JUST PERHAPS join her on stage.

  55. Hi Sarah, hope all is well. I just wanted to pass on the lovely TMI Award. No, it’s a real thing. A fellow blogger presented me with one and now it’s my turn to nominate a blog that I appreciate. Yours was the first to come to mind. From one fellow former dancer turned blogger to another, congratulations and keep up the good work! Enjoy…http://thesouthernstrip.com/2012/03/30/my-first-blog-award/

  56. Hey Sarah – I’m a Houstonian and have been following your story. I’m so sorry the Houston Press outed you, and I’m equally sorry the Chronicle fired you over it. They really look like jerks. I just wrote to encourage you, to tell you to ignore the haters, and to let you know how beautiful you really are. I’m not a strip club regular, but I have certainly been to a few of them over the years, and you seem like a level headed woman who knows what she is doing, and does it very well. Good luck to you.

  57. Sarah, get a life. You need to get a real job and quit selling pussy to make a living. Jesus looks down on that, ya know?

    • Too bad she was fired from one such “real job” because of attitudes like yours. Having a successful blog is clearly more of a life than seeking out places on the internet to comment about things you disagree with.

  58. Great blog … I always thought of Strip clubs as amusement parks not so much for the dances but for the social interaction that goes on. There is girls playing guys and guys trying to play girls . I was always there to talk to the bartenders i know . But its a industry so of course i tipped nicely. its a playground and like any playground go in knowing whats expected play the game play fair but dont get played.

  59. Keep it up girl! You’re smart and beautiful.

  60. Found your blog on TheBlaze.com. It’s silly how people look down on strippers when the girls are getting rich business men to willfully hand over their hard-earned money. The economy sucks and shows no signs of improving (regardless of what the liberal media says), so kudos to you for not only finding ways to survive, but thriving!

  61. Hi Sarah-

    LOVE ur blog!
When I saw the “If you see her, give her your wallet” I remembered a day I was dancing & there were about 10 guys in semi-circle around the stage (some bachelor thing)…first up was my chocolate friend “Cinnamon”-not one tip..then my Latino friend “Sabrina”, not one tip…they were PISSED of course! Then me, green eyed blond-not one tip BUT they all FREAKING CLAPPED!!??!! So. I took a bow, grinned real big & said “ThankU very much, please feel free to throw ur wallets” It worked- they started tipping…

Incidentally, I saw the age question up there…I actually didn’t start until I was 38…was waitressing(Isucked) & after a MUCH pressure from my boss (I was physically very blessed & could still easliy pass for my 20′s), I started dancing-table only tho…it took another year, another club & financial woes for me to get the gumption to work the stage…made stupid good money tho, despite the age, complete inability to hustle & I only worked days…I def. understand ur reluctance to quit…wish I’d started sooner & had invested!

  62. Wondering what are some of your fav songs to dance to?

  63. [...] Check out her blog here. [...]

  64. I fully support your lawsuit. Nobody deserves to be discriminated
against regardless of your profession. Been to a strip club and
nothing bad happens there from what I can see. Guys go to them
to relax and spend some of their monies. Women who dance get
to make some money at a decent job that pays more than
minimum wage. More power to you. Saw you on TV, you are
    very pretty.

  65. I agree with her, there is nothing wrong in what she is doing to supplement her income. Keep fighting for your right girl and don’t give up.

  67. Wanna get married?

  68. I’m pretty damn sure there’s a novel for somebody in here somewhere. It just needs to be uncovered. Great blog. :)

  69. Found your blog on U.S. News on msnbc com while reading “fired for stripping, houston reporter files for discrimination suit”. I ended reading your blog from top to bottom.

I like your blog! Good luck to you.

  70. Whore

  71. Which you the best !! Totally unfair .. maybe you know a few things about the paper that you may have fact on your side?

  72. Just read the article and wanted to wish you great success on your suit. I used to have a friend who was a stripper (she’s moved on elsewhere now) and she worked in a law office by day (I also worked for an attorney in the same building – and still am in the legal field), and as a stripper by night. It was a great supplement to her lower paying day job, she was a very good dancer, great personality, gorgeous, and yes her boss knew what her night job was. So it seems that for all the talk of us Alabama folk being redneck and backwards buried in the Bible belt (and there is nothing wrong with that latter part), Alabama is well above the Houston snobs of your former employer – course the lawyers do have the inside tract on discriminatory issues. You have an obviously great attorney working on your behalf and I am sure she will be most successful in the fight for your rights! Now I’ll go check out your blog – I always enjoy reading new blogs and yours appear to be an interesting and fun read. Best wishes in your endeavors and I hope you kick the Houston Chronicle’s butt! Everyone has a right to earn an honest living!!!!

  73. No probs with you being a stripper but i am not sure why you want to let the world know??publicity.. Maybe you will get more private jobs that way?? A little descretion goes along way!

  74. I just read the article in which it explained how and why you were fired from your real career as a journalist. That is so unfair and I hope you win. As a male, I don’t go to strip clubs, not because the girls aren’t pretty but the guys are lecherous slobs – & stupid. What would possess a guy to throw away his hard-earned money to see a naked girl dance. Please get a life guys ! Having said that, you can make $1500 a night off of other people’s stupidity and as you said – get a good work out to boot. I say earn as much as you can and sock it away – the average span of an exotic dancer is no more than 15 yrs. Cheers ! I’m a journalist too – check out our site at whadawethink.com

  75. [...] former Houston Chronicle reporter named Sarah Tressler, claimed that she was fired of work because she was a former stripper. She said that she was not [...]

  76. You are in a great position because you have both beauty and brains. There are scores of people who are inclined to think that because she dances for money she’s not smart. Wrong ! I’m also shocked that a news organization – The Houston Chronicle would care. As long as the late night dancing didn’t affect your ability to do your day job, this is a slam dunk law suit. Boycott the Houston Chronicle and support Sarah !!!
